Woodrow Wilson Bridge Bike Ride and Walk

Saturday, June 6, 2009

The Washington Area Bicyclist Association, City of Alexandria, Fairfax County, Oxon Hill Bicycle and Trail Club and Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission want you to join us for a ride across the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Trail on National Trails Day! The Woodrow Wilson Bridge Trail will open for public use after 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 6. This 1.1 mile, 12-foot wide multi-use trail will allow bikers and pedestrians to travel between Alexandria, Va. and Prince George’s County, Md. The trail will not be open prior to this date and time! To see the trail, we encourage you to meet up with your neighbors at one of our community convoys traveling to the bridge from meeting points across Northern Virginia and Maryland. An experienced convoy leader will guide you to the bridge where you can explore the various connecting paths and trails on your own. The convoys will arrive at the bridge in waves after 1 pm on June 6. There is no public event or ribbon cutting – so relax and enjoy the ride! You’ll be on your own for the ride home. The Woodrow Wilson Bridge Ride is a FREE event open to the public. However, you must register and space is extremely limited. We expect large crowds and it may be difficult to cross the bridge. No bike? No problem? Bike and Roll Alexandria is providing free two-hour rental for anyone that registers for the event. This is first-come, first-served. For more information or to sign up for a rental call 703-548-7655. More information about the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Trail (PDF).
