In recognition of the passion and commitment of the eastern Ugandan students of the Arlington Academy of Hope, Wheels to Africa volunteers will walk 5 miles from Alexandria to Rosslyn, ending at a sign painting rally to celebrate and prepare for the upcoming 5th annual Wheels to Africa bike collection on December 5th.
The event, called “Walking, Walking, Walking,” also honors the mission and goal of Wheels to Africa, founded by an 11-year old Arlington boy, Winston Duncan, to collect and send bikes to needy communities in Africa. Winston started the organization in 2005 because he was struck by the amazing will of the African people to overcome adversity in the face of enormous challenge. Winston, now 15, recently was a Notable Recipient of the Leon H. Sullivan Summit Award, honoring his “exemplary contribution to help the poor and disadvantaged."
