10 Easy "Steps" to Walking More!

Here are some tips - reminders, really - to make walking a bigger part of your life.

This same information is available on this website as a fun, easily-downloaded bookmark in PDF format.

1.    Make it a family affair. Walk to dinner, a nearby park or a movie one night each week.

2.    Park farther and farther from your destinations, until you are at the outer edge of the parking lot or block.

3.    Quit waiting for elevators; take the stairs!

4.    When you take public transportation, get off one stop away from your destination and walk the rest of the way.

5.    Plan a "leave the car in the garage" day each week, and use other means of transportation, including walking. Let CommuterPage.com help you with the planning!

6.    Find a walking buddy, or start or join a walking group.

7.    Make a point of discovering a new section of Arlington's extensive network of trails each week. Get the trail map online, or pick up a paper copy at the Lubber Run Center registration desk, an Arlington County Commuter Store, or at Court House Plaza, 2100 Clarendon Boulevard, Suite 900.

8.    Follow in the footsteps of other Arlington walkers; take a Walkabout

9.    Subscribe to the monthly "WALKArlington Pacer" e-mail list for walking updates and other goodies.

10.   Get a dog -- or borrow a neighbor's.
