Commuter Store Services for Seniors & Persons with Disablilities
The Commuter Store provides the following services for seniors and persons with disabilities:
Senior/Disabled SmarTrip card
Seniors and people with disabilities can purchase a special SmarTrip card that deducts a discounted fare from the value of the card each time it is used. Persons with disabilities must have a Metro ID on file (see next paragraph) to purchase the discounted SmarTrip card. Seniors with ID that shows their age can buy and use the discounted SmarTrip card without having to apply for a Metro ID.
WMATA (Metro) Senior ID Card
People 65 and older can obtain a Metro Senior ID card by visiting The Commuter Store with proof of age, such as a birth certificate, driver's license or passport. While at the Commuter Store, a Metro Senior ID form will be filled out by the store representative and submitted to Metro for processing. Within 6-8 weeks, the official Senior ID card will be sent to the Senior's place of residence. In the interim, the Senior may use their copy of the completed form to purchase Metro Senior fare media ($10 Senior Rail Fare cards and $6 weekly Senior bus passes). Senior ID cards can also be obtained at local libraries and Metro sales offices. With the Metro ID, seniors can purchase discounted Metro, VRE and MARC fares. anywhere they are available, including The Commuter Store and CommuterDirect.com. Application Form for Metro Disabled ID Card
Metro, VRE and MARC also offer dicounted fares for persons with disabilities who have a Metro Disabled ID card. Application forms are available at The Commuter Store. Reduced-Price Fare Media
Reduced-price tickets, tokens and passes for Metro, VRE and MARC are available to seniors and persons with disabilities who have Metro ID cards (see above) at The Commuter Store and from CommuterDirect.com.
