U.S. National Arboretum - Talk and Tour: Think Inside the Box

Saturday, June 16, 2012

When:  10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Where:  United States National Arboretum, 3501 New York Avenue, NE, Washington DC
Who:  Ages 16 and older
Fee: $12 ($10 FONA); Registration required

What: Boxwood’s evergreen nature, fine texture, and refined growth habit impart elegance and permanence to the garden. Learn all about these “garden aristocrats” including types, growth habits, pests, pruning, identification, propagation, and more, from Lynn Batdorf. Mr. Batdorf is an internationally recognized boxwood expert, author of two boxwood reference books, curator of the Arboretum’s renowned collection, and registrar for The American Boxwood Society. Begin in the classroom with a presentation on boxwood identification and culture, then tour the collection, which contains approximately 150 different species and cultivars. Test your new identification skills and ask questions as you walk through one of the most complete boxwood collections in the world. Bring “problem” plants or branches from your home garden for expert diagnosis.
