The following is historical information relating to the launch of Pike Ride during the summer and early fall, 2003:
Pike Ride Public Information Schedule:
- Pentagon Transit Center. July 31, 2003. Arlington County Commuter Services staff visit Pentagon Transit Center and hand out “Pike Ride Fact Sheet” to customers as they board #16 buses.
- Email News. August 1, 2003. Email News service becomes available at www.CommuterPage.com/PikeRide.
- Direct Mail Postcard. August 8, 2003. “Changes are coming down the Pike” post card with info on where to find out more information about Pike Ride is mailed to 21,000 Columbia Pike households.
- WMATA Board Action. August 14, 2003. WMATA Board officially adopts #16 Line service changes.
- Service Changes Document Available. August 15, 2003. Official WMATA “Virginia Metrobus Service Changes” document is made available on web.
- Pentagon Transit Center. August 19, 2003. Arlington County Commuter Services staff visit Pentagon Transit Center from 3 pm to 8 pm and hand out “Letter to Metrobus #16 Riders with Highlights of the new Pike Ride service Plan” document to customers as they board #16 buses.
- Pike Ride Map Available ONLINE. August 19, 2003. New full color Pike Ride "family of services" Metrobus and ART map now available online.
- New ART 73,74 and 75 Timetables (ONLINE VERSION). Available August 20, 2003. New ART 41, 73, 74 and 75 timetables are loaded to the web site and available to the public on August 20, 2003.
- New Metrobus #16 Line Timetables (ONLINE VERSION). Available August 20, 2003. WMATA's Metrobus new #16 Line Timetables for the #16A,B,D,F,J,L; #16G,H,K,W are loaded to the web site and made available to the public on August 20, 2003.
- Door-To-Door Campaign. August 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 2003. Pike Riders Team (Arlington County Commuter Services staff) visit 400+ business on Columbia Pike and provide Pike Ride info and promotional items.
- New ART Timetables (HARDCOPY). Week of August 25, 2003. New ART 41, 73, 74 and 75 timetables will be available.
- Door-To-Door Campaign. September 2, 3, 2003. Pike Riders Team (Arlington County Commuter Services Arlington Transportation Partners staff) visit multi-tenant residential communities on Columbia Pike and provide Pike Ride info and promotional items.
- Direct Mail: Pike Ride Brochure. September 2, 2003. Pike Ride brochure featuring a new full color map of all the bus routes in the Columbia Pike area is mailed to 21,000 Columbia Pike households.
- Pike Ride Brochure. Week of September 2, 2003. The direct mailed Pike Ride brochure will also be available for distribution to individuals and businesses.
- New Metrobus #16 Line Timetables (HARDCOPY). Week of September 2, 2003. WMATA's Metrobus new #16 Line Timetables for the #16A,B,D,F,J,L; #16G,H,K,W and #16Y should be available for distribution.
- NEW Pike Ride Bus Stop Information. Week of September 2, 2003. During the week crews will begin installing 53 brand new Pike Ride Bust Stop Information kiosks at each bus stop along Columbia Pike within Arlington County. These new information kiosks will be in addition to the WMATA Bus Stop flag pole and Ride Guide (info box). Each of the kiosks will feature an easy-to-read destination head sign so riders can easily figure out which bus to take where. In addition 2 "spinny-tubes" will be installed. One tube will contain a huge 24" x 30" Pike Ride map and the other tube will contain riding and schedule information. THIS WILL BE THE FIRST TIME IN THE WASHINGTON, D.C. REGION THAT THIS KIND OF DETAILED INFORMATION WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE TO THE BUS RIDING PUBLIC IN A MAJOR TRANSIT CORRIDOR.
- Pentagon Transit Center. September 5, 2003. Arlington County and WMATA staff will be at the Pentagon Transit Center from 6:30 am until 8:30 pm to provide Metrobus #16 riders with information, brochures, new schedules and to answer questions.
- Radio Promo Event. September 5, 2003. Pike Ride Radio Promotion: Mega (WBZS/WBPS) at Cecilia's. Mega van and promotions. DC United Fan Cruiser and more.
- Pentagon Transit Center, Pentagon City Metro, September 8, 2003. Arlington County and WMATA staff will be on hand to help direct customers to the correct buses and to answer questions on the first weekday of new service.
- Columbia Pike Inbound Bus Stops, September 8, 2003. Arlington County staff will be on hand at the eight busiest inbound Arlington bus stops along Columbia Pike from 6:30 am until 9:30 am to help customers adjust to the first weekday of new service.
