Arlington Bicycling Events
During 2005 Arlington County Board Chairman Jay Fisette is emphasizing decreasing pollution by increasing the use of transit, walking, and biking. During May there are three ways you can participate in biking.

Bike To Work Day, Friday May 20

Arlington Community Bike Ride, Saturday, May 28

This non-competitive cycling event took place on Saturday, May 28th, 2005. the ride offered two route options of 18 and 8.5 miles. The ride took place on streets open to traffic and multi-use trails also open to the general public. Safety marshals were be stationed at critical intersections along the route, with police officers stationed at the particularly difficult areas. Roving bike marshals rode along with the tour to provide safety assistance as well as mechanical support.
The purpose of the event was to promote the use of bicycling as a means of transportation and recreation; to improving the health and well being of Arlington residents and visitors through the promotion of alternative means of transportation such as transit, walking and bicycling; to increase the number of cyclists while reducing the number of crashes in Arlington through bicycle safety education for children and adults; and to build awareness of bicycle facility options throughout the county.
Four new KHS Bikes were awarded as prizes to lucky event registrants. Kids enjoyed a free bike safety rodeo hosted by WABA.

8th Annual CSC Invitational Professional Bike Race, Sunday, May 29th
National, Olympic and World Champion cyclists again will compete on the streets of Arlington in this regions most prestigious professional bike race. Join Team CSC with defending champ Lars Michaelsen (DEN) and every other top US based Pro cycling team for a day at the races. Amateur races begin at 8 am, leading up to the Mens Pro race at noon.
