Promoting Community Transportation Programs

Spreading the word about Community Transportation Programs is paramount to participation.  Arlington Transportation Partners (ATP) helps you promote your programs through activities such as special events, transportation fairs and seminars.

Here's a sample of the help we can provide for a Transportation Fair:

A Transportation Fair is a community event where transportation organizations set up brochures and flyers at simple tabletop or booth displays.  Here, your residents will find plenty of helpful information on mass transit, vanpooling, carpooling, teleworking, bicycling, walking and more.

During the fair, ATP will educate and assist your residents in finding the best transportation options for their commutes and their lifestyles.

Hosting a Transportation Fair is easy and productive if you follow a few tried-and-true tips:

  • Plan ahead - Proper planning is the most important timesaving tip for you and your residents.
    • Choose a date and time for your event;
    • Provide a space for the event (ex. a meeting room or lobby);
    • Provide food and drink if time and space allow; and
    • Assist in set-up if required.
  • Advertise - One way to guarantee getting your residents' attention is by advertising on or in the media they use most often such as:
    • Your newsletter
    • Your Web site
    • Monthly billing statements
  • Post flyers - Design your own promotional flyers using clip art and desktop publishing and post flyers at least two weeks in advance in places where people gather, such as hallways, elevators, and the lobby.
  • Personalize - Can you get a list of people who may attend the transportation fair? If so, why not send them a personal invitation? Personalized invitations are much more motivating than generic invitations and they show each resident that you care about their individual commuting needs.  Personal invitations are also a wonderful way to make new residents feel welcomed.

Enhancing your Transportation Fair

If you'd like to enhance your Transportation Fair by having ATP provide personalized commuting information to individual residents, have interested residents complete a Community Transportation Survey prior to the Transportation Fair. ATP will then analyze each resident's survey results and provide the information and brochures that match with his/her specific commuting needs and opportunities.

Free Community Transportation Surveys are available from ATP. Simply contact ATP, and let us know how many surveys you need and if your residents will be requesting personalized commuting information.

Other Events and Promotions

In addition to Transportation Fairs, you can hold other events to encourage residents to make the most of your location and their transportation resources.  Other examples of events and promotions include:

  • Hold a Bike to Work Day for your residents,
  • Host an on-site ridematching event,
  • Work with local retailers to provide prizes for residents who use an alternate commuting method every day for a week.
