Crystal City Metro Station Escalator Canopies

Project Description

As part of Metro’s approved Comprehensive Escalator Canopy Program, Metro is designing and installing a signature canopy over the outdoor escalators at the Metro station in Arlington’s Crystal City.  The canopy will protect the escalators from the weather and thereby improve reliability and passenger convenience.  The canopy design is similar to the one installed at the Virginia Square Metro Station. Metro will also build an adjacent canopy over the sidewalk from the Crystal City bus bay area to the escalator to provide continuous shelter for station users.

Metro is managing this project for Arlington. Metro’s design-build canopy contractor is Grunley-Walsh.  Metro funding will cover the design and construction of the escalator canopy. Arlington County is funding the cost of designing and constructing the pedestrian canopy.
