CommuterPage.com 10th Anniversary
1997-2007

It's been ten years! CommuterPage.com (then known as "The Commuter Page") first went online in March, 1997. The focus then was on reducing traffic congestion and air pollution in Arlington, Virginia by encouraging commuters to find "a better way to work." It quickly became apparent that to be useful, the site had to provide information about the Washington, D.C. area as a whole, since few commutes (and none of the long ones) start and end within Arlington's borders. Over the years, CommuterPage.com has expanded its target audience beyond commuters to include anyone that needs to get around the area for any reason.
Evolving Style
CommuterPage.com has gone through a lot of changes. The original home page, from 1997, is pictured at the top of this page. As the site content expanded dramatically, redesigns have been needed every two or three years. Here are some of the other looks the site has gone through:

2000 Go Long
By 2000, CommuterPage.com featured a news digest with headlines and a sentence or two from local news stories about transportation. A large section of the home page was devoted to news, and the page extended downward to fit everything else in the left and right columns.
